HIPS Merchant Protocol (HMP) aims to introduce consumer protection concepts to any blockchain with support for smart contracts, in order to increase market penetration and acceptance among mainstream consumers. The solution includes the Hips Merchant Protocol Gateway (HMP-gateway), the governing Merchant Token (MTO), and a blockchain optimized for real-time merchant transactions, supporting ISO8583 for backward-compatible financial protocols. The goal is to enable crypto payments using existing terminal and card scheme infrastructures, making it easier and safer for consumers to adopt cryptocurrency as a payment method.
